I have been a lettering artist for more than 10 years now and I have learn many techniques, from script to interlocks. I have had the chance to design typographic illustrations for companies like Carhartt or Adobe and now I focus more on my proper style, which is something more human and vibrant. This is what I want to share with you in my workshops.
What you’ll learn
Learn the Art of Collage Lettering and its impact on your creativity. Cutting paper is a remarkable meditating technique and mixing it with letters takes you to places you never explored.
In this workshop you will learn to understand letters and see the impact of forms and counter forms on the design of the lettering piece. You will learn to make it unique but still readable at the same time.
Collage Lettering is really different than drawing letters. You have to be aware and open to its imperfections which make it unique and vibrant.
So we will detail letters shapes, try to go with the flow and not thinking too much of the outcome. This is a great exercise to take your lettering skills to another level. Also that exercise will have a global impact on how you work and will help you to be open to happy surprises with your work.
You will also go with the flow in a composition. You will learn to alternate different kinds of letters and make them go together whether on one or several lines.
Then we will learn another lettering style: script. Script lettering with paper cut is really something unique and by learning it you will learn to understand outlines, connections between letters, where to cut and not to cut. And again it will help you to improve your global lettering skills by understanding deeply how letters are formed, how they are linked, and what do to keep them readable while being unique and vibrant.
At the end of the workshop, we will dig a bit deeper by using all negative cutouts you kept from your exercises and try to make a words or more with them.
The goal of this workshop is to to give you another way to explore lettering, and perhaps a more vibrant and unique way, by letting get surprised by the process and appreciate an imperfect outcome.
And last but not least, all you will learn here will be reusable in your daily work. I use collage lettering everyday. I cut, glue and then scan it to vectorise it and use it in a project. Uses of collage lettering are unlimited.
Here is the list of the exercises we will practice:
Forms and Counterforms: playing with shapes of letters.
Forms and Counterforms: Go with the flow - Create a word
Forms and Counterforms: Go with the flow - Create a sentence

You don’t need to be a type master to take that workshop. It is open to everyone who likes to draw letters and want to experiment. No knowledge required.
-
As this is a collage course, you will need scissors and/or a scalpel, glue of any kind, and color paper. For the last material, you can do like Matisse did and paint your own paper the colors you want, or buy directly color paper.

No, this course is actually a recorded version of a workshop I did earlier in 2025. Also, the content is totally different.
